A Heated Neck Massager You Lie Back On for 10 Minutes Before Bed

Lie back on it for 10 minutes before bed. Four warm nodes knead the tight muscles at the back and sides of your neck, and the warmth helps them relax. When those muscles are tight, fluid can drain out of your face more slowly and sit there overnight, which is part of the puffiness many people see in the morning. Loosening the neck is also where lymphatic massage therapists start, before they touch the face.

The problem

Why your face can look puffy in the morning

The fluid in your face drains down through your neck and out just above your collarbone. When the muscles in your neck are tight, it drains more slowly. Lying flat all night, salty food, alcohol and short sleep slow it down even more. That's why you can wake up puffy and look normal by lunchtime.

1

Your face: fluid collects overnight

It settles in your cheeks, under your eyes and along your jaw while you lie flat.

2

By your ears and under your jaw: it starts to drain

Small lymph nodes in front of your ears and under your jaw collect it first.

3

The back and sides of your neck: tight muscles slow it down

This is where a stiff neck holds everything up, and it's where this massager works.

4

Just above your collarbone: it drains out

From here the fluid goes back into your bloodstream.

How it works

It loosens your neck, where your face drains

You lie back, and four warm nodes knead the tight muscles at the back and sides of your neck. The warmth helps them relax. Use the Gentle setting, because gentle pressure suits this routine better than hard pressure. After 10 minutes it turns itself off.

  • 4 kneading nodes: on the back and sides of your neck, just below your skull.
  • Warmth: two heat levels, up to 42°C (107°F).
  • 10 minutes: it turns itself off when the time is up.

Why start at the neck? Lymphatic massage therapists clear the neck before they touch the face. About a third of your lymph nodes are in your head and neck.

How to use

Lie back for 10 minutes before bed

Finger pressing a button on the control panel of the heated neck massager

1. Lie back on Gentle for 10 minutes

Lie on your bed or sofa with your neck in the cradle, so the nodes sit on your neck just below your skull. Turn the heat on and choose Gentle. It turns itself off after 10 minutes.

2. Use your hands for 30 seconds

Stroke lightly down the sides of your neck. Press softly a few times just above your collarbone. Then sweep your face out toward your ears.

3. Look in the mirror when you wake up

Take a photo on your first morning so you can compare it later. Use it every night, the way you brush your teeth.

Where it should sit: the nodes go on your neck, just below your skull. If they are on the back of your head, it's up too high, so scoot your whole head up.

Who it's for

For men and women, on the bed or the sofa

Men and women use it, and so do people with very different necks, from a thick, muscular neck to a petite one. Keep it by the bed or on the sofa, and lie back on it at night, at the end of a long day or after the gym.
