Survival Straw – Advanced Water Filter
With a 0.01 micron membrane, 20 times finer than a common 0.2 micron filter straw, this survival straw is rated to remove 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.9% of protozoa from freshwater sources. Screw it onto a bottle. Drink straight from a creek. Use it as a gravity filter. One small tool for emergencies, camping, hiking and travel.

Key features
Buy once. Store it. Be ready.
- 0.01 micron filtration: blocks bacteria, protozoa and sediment, and the carbon stage reduces chlorine, odours and bad taste.
- Threads onto any standard bottle: fill, cap and carry clean water without crouching at a water source.
- 1,800 gallon filter lifespan: no replacements, no cartridges, no ongoing cost.
- No expiry date: store it in your kit and it is ready the day you need it.
- Lighter than a phone: about 2 oz, so it lives in a glovebox, school bag or emergency kit without adding bulk.
The problem
When the taps run dry

Many families have nothing in place for one of the most predictable emergencies there is: losing access to clean water. A flood, a storm, a burst water main, a bushfire cutting off the area, or a boil-water notice that lasts 72 hours while bottled water sells out in minutes.
Bottled water is not a plan. It runs out. It's heavy. You can't buy it when everyone else is trying to. Stored water runs out too: most households only have a few days of water stored, and many emergencies last longer than that.
This straw gives you something better: the ability to make clean drinking water from the freshwater around you. A creek. A rainwater tank. Tap water during a boil notice. Stored water is finite. The ability to filter water is not.
See it in use: fill a bottle at a creek, screw on the straw and drink.
Why families choose it
5 reasons prepared families choose this survival straw
How to use
Three steps to clean water

1. Find a freshwater source
A creek, river, lake, rainwater tank, or tap water under a boil notice. Put the filter tip below the surface. The murkier the water, the more the filtration matters.
2. Choose your method
Drink directly through the mouthpiece when you're at the water source. Or screw the filter onto any standard 28 mm bottle, fill it and carry clean water with you. For hands-free filtering, hang the straw above a container and let gravity do the work.
3. Back-flush and store
After use, blow gently back through the mouthpiece to push trapped sediment out of the filter. This clears the membrane and extends the filter's life. Cap both ends and store it. It's ready to use again straight away: no drying time, no maintenance, no parts to lose.
What's inside
What's inside the survival straw
- 0.01 micron hollow-fibre membrane: 20 times finer than a 0.2 micron membrane. It physically blocks a broader range of biological contaminants, including bacteria and protozoa at the smaller end of the size range.
- Activated carbon fibre filter: takes care of what the membrane can't: chlorine, organic compounds and odour-causing chemicals that affect taste. Carbon fibre offers about five times the surface area of standard granular activated carbon.
- PP cotton pre-filter: a small filter disc next to the carbon stage.
- Bottle-thread compatibility: threads onto any standard 28 mm bottle, the same mouth as most store-bought water bottles. Fill from the source, screw on the filter and carry clean water with you, or fill bottles for others.
- Three use modes: direct drinking from the source, bottle mode for carrying clean water, and gravity filtration for hands-free use.
- 1,800 gallon filter lifespan: an adult drinks roughly half a gallon of water a day. Even at double that in an emergency, one straw covers years of daily use.
- No expiry date: the filter membrane doesn't degrade in dry storage. Durable casing and a carabiner for clipping it to a bag.

Did you know?
The real difference between 0.01 and 0.2 microns
“Removes 99.9% of bacteria” can sound the same whether a filter is 0.01 or 0.2 microns. The difference is at the boundary: organisms and particles that pass through a larger pore but can't get through a smaller one.
When the water source is clean, it doesn't matter much. When it isn't, it does. A 0.01 micron membrane keeps that margin small.

Questions people ask
How does it work?
It has two filtration stages: a 0.01 micron hollow-fibre membrane and an activated carbon fibre filter. Water drawn through the straw first passes the membrane, which physically blocks bacteria, protozoa and sediment because they are too large to pass through the 0.01 micron pores. It then passes the carbon stage, which takes up chlorine, organic compounds and odour-causing chemicals. No batteries, no chemicals, no setup: the suction of drinking does the work.
What does it filter out?
It is rated to remove bacteria (such as E. coli and salmonella), protozoa (such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium), sediment and particles, and the carbon stage reduces chlorine and the organic chemicals that cause bad taste and odours. It is not rated to remove viruses or dissolved heavy metals. If viral contamination is suspected, use water purification tablets alongside the straw.
Why not just boil water?
Boiling works against bacteria, but only when you have a heat source, fuel and time. In a flood your gas may be off. In a power cut your electric kettle doesn't work. Outdoors you need firewood, a pot and ten minutes. Boiling also does nothing for chemical taste and odours. The straw filters as you drink, with nothing needed beyond the straw and a water source. The two can also be used together.
How long does it last?
Each straw is rated to filter 1,800 gallons, roughly 6,800 litres. There is no expiry date for dry storage. At 2 litres per person per day, that is over nine years of drinking water for one adult.
How do I clean it?
After use, blow gently back through the mouthpiece to push trapped sediment out of the filter, then cap both ends. There are no cartridges to replace.
