StellarForge Grand Orrery Model Of The Solar System
Experience a precise representation of celestial motion with a Grand Orrery that accurately conveys the relative speeds of planetary orbits, alongside the Moon’s movement around Earth as both travel around the Sun.
Historically, Grand Orreries traced only the naked-eye planets out to Saturn, a scope developed in the early 18th century. This model expands the display to 9 planets, including Pluto, and 28 moons.
The Earth–Moon–Sun system is illustrated with the Moon orbiting Earth while the Earth itself completes its orbit around the Sun, showing the compound motion that defines our solar neighborhood.
Speed relationships are part of the display: Mercury completes 1028 orbits for every Pluto revolution. Mercury’s orbital cycle is about 4 seconds, whereas Pluto’s is roughly 4 hours.
The Sun, the 9 planets, and the 28 moons are represented as striking semi-precious stone spheres. Brass planets with a stone moon are also available by special order only.
Operation is battery-powered unless otherwise indicated in preferences. The mechanism is fully visible beneath the orbiting planets, offering a captivating display of moving solid brass gears in action.
Set within a refined woodwork shell, the Grand Orrery rests in a twelve-sided oak barrel housing, supported by 12 solid brass feet, presenting the piece with elegance. An engraved brass calendar and zodiacal ring sits on 12 brass pillars above the oak barrel. Above the moving planets and the calendar ring sits a removable solid brass armillary half-sphere, crowning the model with a classic finish.
